Frequently Asked Questions

01. Can I renew the OVHC when it gets expired in Australia?

Yes, sometimes. This is whether or not the policy remains in arrears or has already lapsed. As the break extends, continuity becomes more difficult to maintain, and a different application may need to be made. For example, according to nib a break of > 2 months means the insured must be reapplying while AIA state that a transfer with > 60 days between policies could mean it is classed as new cover.

02. What if my OVHC goes to Collection?

Date recovered If the policy is overdue but not yet terminated, it may be recoverable. nib says its cover can stay continuous for arrears of less than 60 days, given overdue premiums are paid within that time but services in the period during arrears won't be paid until those arrears have been cleared.

03. Is waiting period restart if I change OVHC providers?

They may. But, if there is a gap, if the new policy is equivalent, and you are upgrading benefits. nib state a break of more than 30 days may mean treatment as a new insured person, whilst AIA states that absence of over 60 days could result in complete waiting periods applying.

04. Is it the same coverage across all OVHC products with the same insurer?

No. Product-level rules matter. As part of those uploaded rules, some products have completely removed pregnancy and birth from cover, while other products include it but with a 12-month waiting period. Excluded covers and restrictions also differ per product.
