Frequently Asked Questions

01. Is OSHC mandatory for an Australian Student Visa?

Yes. Under Visa Condition 8501, all international students (and their dependents) must maintain continuous Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for the entire duration of their stay in Australia. Without valid cover, your visa application may be refused, or your existing visa could be cancelled.

02. Can I switch my OSHC provider during my studies?

Yes, you are free to switch providers at any time. The most important rule is that there must be no gap between your old policy ending and your new one beginning. Most insurers will provide a pro-rata refund for the remaining months of your old policy once you show proof of your new cover.

03. Does OSHC cover dental or optical (glasses) treatment?

No. Standard OSHC only covers "essential" medical services like GP visits, hospital stays, and emergency ambulance transport. It does not include dental, optical, or physiotherapy. To get coverage for these services, you will need to purchase an "Extras" or "Comprehensive" plan.
